Dialect & Population

The people of Khorramabad city speak two dialects : Lori , and Laki . the people rediding in Balaguerivah Regions , most of whom belonging to the tribes called Mir and Djudaki , are the speakers of Lori [i.e., these regions have got more Lori-speakers than other regions . ] the people from chegueni District , papi district, Sagvand tribe , and Khorramabad city also speak the dialect . Due to the influx of villagers and tribes people into Khorramabad during the years following the [Islamic] Revolution , more than 30% of the people in the city , who live more in the Northern and Eastern sections , speak Laki . most of the people speaking Laki live within the range of Khorramabad city , and they are the residents of chaghalvandi District and villages in Northern Khorramabad .

Religion:
The people in Khorramabad city believe in and practice Islam and shiism [of twelve Imams]. They espelially love Imam Hossain , the third Imam martyred in Karbala , and His companions , and each year , in an enthusiastic ceremony , during the first ten days of Moharam , the people of Khorramabad smear themselves with the Holy mud beating their breasts and doing other mourning rituals –Based on their beliefs and out of their love Imam Reza . the Eight Imam buried in mashad –Iran , the people of Khorramabad make an annual pilgrimage to Mashad in spring or summer and devote gifts as offerings and visit the Holy shrine in procession . there are many holy places in and around the city of Khorramabad , regarded as sacred and praiseworthy by the people . the main holy shrines are : Imamzadeh (son of Imam) Agha Zaid Ali , the two Brothers [i.e. Dou Baradaran ]shahzadeh Abdoullah [i.e. Holy prince Abdoullah] , Shahzadeh Ahmad , Shahzadeh Mohammad ,etc] .

Costumes :
The local costumes of Khorramabad city people , worn less often nowadays , are : 1. men,s traditional costumes: Jomah [shirt], Karas, ghovah [long garment open in front ] , seterah, shawl [long piece of cloth used as a belt ] , hat , sardari [frock pleated round the waist ] 2. women,s traditional costumes : Joma [dress] (Keras in Laki) , Waistcoat , hazu [short sleeved dress] , sardari [frock]

Livelihood [Means of living]
The main means of living for the people in Khorramabad city , who live in the rural areas , is farming and animal husbandry . city -dwellers aho live downtown and reside in the center of Khorramabad are employed on the civil services and small industries.
